There are many possible causes of aching feet following regular walks, but here are a few of the more common ones. Probably the most common and easily fixable cause of sore feet is simply poor-fitting shoes, or shoes that may be properly fitting, but which are not suitable for extended walking.

Another possible cause of foot pain resulting from regular walking is a minor foot ailment such as plantar fasciitis, the most common type of heel pain. Plantar fasciitis causes inflammation of the plantar fascia ligament that stretches along the bottom of the foot. This ailment is commonly caused by repetitive, excessive stress on the heel tissue, and so this can certainly arise from vigorous, regular walking.

A third cause of sore feet from walking, particularly among older walkers, is mild arthritis in the feet. Certain types of arthritis cause painful inflammation in the tendons of the bottom of the feet. Fortunately, there are quick effective treatments that can help with all of these foot issues.

Looking at the causes of foot soreness listed above, clearly our first task should be to examine our walking shoes and visit a specialty store in order to have a perfectly fitting pair of walking shoes custom made for us. The little bit of extra money required for such a pair of shoes will be negligible compared to freedom of being able to continue to enjoy walking without pain.

Next, if you walk regularly, it is essential that you practice some form of ongoing foot treatment and therapy in order to prevent the onset of chronic foot pain. Such treatment can come in the form of regular trips to your reflexologist for a thorough foot massage, or from various home treatments like foot baths or self-administered foot massages. Regular foot therapy will eliminate your existing sore foot pain and ensure that simple foot soreness does not develop into more serious foot ailments like plantar fasciitis.

There are many different forms of foot therapy, but I would like to share my favorite, a little known reflexology tool called the Japanese bamboo foot massager. This little device is an ideal tool to use before and after your walks and also as effective therapy for conditions like plantar fasciitis and mild foot arthritis.

The bamboo foot massager is simply a small, arched piece of bamboo that you step gently on for a couple minutes each day. The gentle arch of bamboo gently but effectively massages the bottoms of the feet, stretching and loosening the ligaments and tendons of the soles of the feet.
